Chinese Herbal Medicine
Effective and Time-Tested
Patients are prescribed specific formulas based on what the body needs to regain health and harmony. Chinese herbal medicine supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Formulations that have been used for thousands of years have synergistic effects on body/organ functions. Modern research continues to prove the efficacy of these formulas. Chinese herbal medicine is an effective compliment to acupuncture, or a stand-alone therapy, to address a wide range of conditions.

Other Treatments
Used in combination with any of the above
Far infrared heat lamps, cupping, Tuina (massage), Qigong and electro-acupuncture.
Acupuncture
Needle Therapy
Acupuncture is an ancient practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to alleviate pain, improve energy flow, and restore balance. It is a safe and effective treatment for various health conditions. Most patients feel extremely relaxed once the needles have been inserted, and typically fall asleep during treatment.
Electroacupuncture involves sending a low level of electricity through the needles to enhance their effect. This technique is primarily used to treat pain and neuropathy.

Moxibustion
Heat Therapy
Moxibustion, the original infrared/heat therapy, uses Moxa (dried Chinese Mugwort (Artemisiae argyi Folium)) which is burned on or near the skin, or sometimes on the tip of an inserted acupuncture needle. Moxa warms and invigorates the flow of Qi in the body and dispels certain pathogenic influences.
Ontake is a form of Moxibustion, and it is Andrew’s specialty. This technique is from Japan and utilizes bamboo tubes filled with Moxa. The warm tube is tapped, rolled, and pressed onto the body. The combination of rhythm, heat, frequency and pressure triggers rapid shifts in body condition and mood. This modality is extremely relaxing.

About Andrew.
I first came to acupuncture in my 20’s as a patient with significant chronic knee pain. Acupuncture gave me great relief before, during and after multiple surgeries. That experience led me to pursue a career in helping others with TCM. I've helped countless patients achieve their fertility goals, manage their pain, and maintain their health with regular treatments while working in practices in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Now in my practice on Cape Cod, I'm delving deeper into trainings for treating Lyme, Alpha-gal Syndrome and other tick-borne illnesses. I myself have had Lyme three times and understand the difficulties of diagnosing and treating this complex disease.
I'm currently participating in an advanced study program on treating patients with Chronic Lyme Disease through the Chronic Lyme Disease Training Program led by Heiner Fruehauf. Whether recently diagnosed or struggling with chronic symptoms for years, there's much that TCM can offer to help patients regain health and vigor.
I have a proven track record for helping clients not only with pain, but with a wide range of diagnoses and concerns: arthritis, migraines, digestion issues, reproductive issues, insomnia, depression, neuropathy and other neurological disorders, recovery from cancer treatments, SUD and more.
I continually take classes and workshops, and educate myself on new developments and research in TCM theory and practice so that I can better serve my clients in their pursuit of good health.
I hold a dual Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and Chinese Herbal Medicine from New England School of Acupuncture at MCPHS. I am licensed to practice acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in Massachusetts.
I’m the father of 2 grown sons, a musician, skier, kayaker and an artist. I love the natural beauty and creative community on the Cape, and feel grateful to call it home.

Client Stories
Our clients share their transformational experiences at Andrew Payne Acupuncture & Herbs, highlighting the effectiveness of our treatments in improving their health and well-being.
Amy Haigh
"I highly recommend Dr. Andrew Payne. I have gone to a few other acupuncturists in RI before for lower back/hip pain with little success. I felt like they were just going through the motions. Dr. Andy really focuses in on your specific issues and uses a variety of techniques to address them. I had a recent flair up and felt 80% better after my first treatment and the flair up was gone after the second. I have never had so much success with any treatment. He also has a calming, caring and relaxing presence. I am so happy to have found him!"
Theresa Larsen
"I've seen Dr. Payne elsewhere and I would highly recommend his services. I went in with pain in my back and I walked out without pain for a few weeks. Amazing."
John Shadoian
"Today was my first ever experience with Accupuncture, suffering with some lower back pain i decided to try it out and I will report that im glad I did. Dr Andy was friendly, compassionate and very helpful and he was more than happy to explain everything he was doing seeing as how it was my first experience with this type of treatment."
